NQROC represents five member-councils including Burdekin Shire Council, Charters Towers Regional Council, Hinchinbrook Shire Council, Palm Island Aboriginal Shire Council and Townsville City Council.

The Mayor from each member council form the voting members of the NQROC. They are advised by their CEOs.

The region extends over 80,036 square kilometres with a population of approximately 238,813 (9% Indigenous).  The median age of the population is 37.1 years, and the population is predicted to grow by 1.3% every year for the next 25 years.

The role of NQROC is to foster cooperation and resource sharing between Councils and effectively advocate regional positions and priorities. This is achieved through on-going collaboration and advocacy and by working closely with regional partners and stakeholders.

NQROC advocates for increased investment by State and Federal governments and public bodies in critical infrastructure and services benefitting member council areas. All efforts are targeted towards enhancing economic growth, social capacity and the environmental sustainability of our region.
